House Race Roundup: Lee Terry Jumps On The Caribou Train!

FL-24: A new poll from the campaign of Democrat Suzanne Kosmas shows a tied race in Florida’s 24th District:

Hamilton Campaigns for Suzanne Kosmas. 9/11-14. Likely voters. (May results)

Feeney (R) 43 (51)
Kosmas (D) 42 (37)

Kosmas has been advertising heavily and has strong backing from the national party, so there’s reason to believe that she’ll be able to close down the stretch. The race leans Feeney’s way, but this is a nice-looking bit of news.

Meanwhile, the Cook Political Report has upgraded this race from “Lean Republican” to “Tossup”.

NE-02: Apparently, Liddy Dole isn’t the only one who draws support from caribou in her reelection bid. So does Nebraska Rep. Lee Terry:

Terry has consistently supported drilling in ANWR to provide some relief at the pump. Despite sharp criticism from environmentalists who argue drilling would disrupt the unique artic ecosystem. Terry said minimal impact drilling is possible.

“We can even protect the caribou,” said Terry. “The caribou like it actually. since they have to heat the oil to pump it, the caribou huddle up around the pipelines. It keeps them warm.”

In the face of such idiocy, Cook has upgraded NE-02 as well, from “Likely Republican” to “Lean Republican”.

MN-03: While DFL candidate Ashwin Madia believes the government should be able to negotiate for lower prices with pharmaceutical drug companies, his Republican opponent Erik Paulsen, seriously believes that wouldn’t save any money.

Meanwhile, McCain and Palin are heading to Minnesota this week, and MNPublius has a great plan to fight back…

LA-06: Contrast these two ads released in the wake of Hurricane Gustav, one by Democrat Don Cazayoux, the other by Republican Bill Cassidy.

First, Cassidy’s. Keep in mind, this ad is entitled “Rain”.

It’s shot in what appears to be a rainstorm, or is supposed to be, anyway, and its titled certainly seems to allude to recent events. Yet it does not mention hurricane recovery, oddly enough.

This could be nothing but exceptionally bad timing, but Daily Kingfish’s Ryan has a few questions:

   * What day did he shoot this ad?
   * Did he have power when he shot the ad?
   * Was it actually raining or did he fake the rain?
   * If it was shot during Gustav, why doesn’t he mention the challenges Louisianans are facing and the recovery ahead?
   * If it wasn’t shot during Gustav, why is he pretending it was?
   * How did he find the time to film a partisan political campaign commercial while Baton Rouge was experiencing the worst storm in its history?

and closes with:

I just wonder how the constituents in his State Senate district and the folks he hopes to represent in LA-06 are going to feel about his using the “hurricane” as a backdrop for an ad where he launches into generic political talking points …

In any case, there’s one candidate who is focused on recovery, and that is Don Cazayoux:
